jewelry
through the medium of jewelry, I create work that reflects on my life- in particular my relationships with others. jewelry is an inherently intimate art form, both in its creation as well as the way it is worn on the body. I use that intimacy to create work that explores the depth of human emotion and how we are affected by one another. taking inspiration from historical and fantasical weaponry, I take the metaphoric dangers of human relationships and bring them into the physical realm. many of my pieces are difficult to wear for long periods, due to the sharpness of the metalwork itself. this forces the wearer to remain concious of the piece, and focus on its interaction with their body.
"Hands around my neck..." copper pendant with attached chain
this piece discusses themes of control and power in personal relationships, forcing the wearer to willingly enter a situation in which they are made to be uncomfortable, while still concious of the state of the object in relation to the body, both for the wearers safety as well as the objects.
